Plus size clothing modeled by plus size women?
Should the clothing be modeled by plus size women? Plus-size clothing should be modeled by plus-size models to help determine a realistic viewpoint to the customer. However, the industry will argue that issue because their motives are business and not personal.
If you are an oversized person shopping for clothes, you want to see what a particular article or outfit would look like on someone your size. It would give you a more truthful idea of how the outfit would look on you.
When an oversized person sees a lovely outfit being modeled on the perfect figured woman, they are caught up with the beauty of the model who is wearing their choice of an outfit, and will often buy it. They may try to justify the difference in their size to the model's by finding a common ground with them - their hairstyle or colour maybe and then identifying themselves with that model. They then conclude in their mind that the outfit would also look great on them because they have some similar physical features. |||The downside to this strategy, however, is that for many women, when they try on the same outfit in their own size, they realize that they don't look anything like the model and become disheartened over their appearance. This advertising deception can lead to massive depression or denial in the person who is struggling with their weight Rosseta Stone. And the reality of the facts can hit hard and cause them to give up trying to lose weight because by comparison Rosseta Stone, they believe they'll never look as good as the model.
Therefore, the plus-size consumer would prefer that clothing be modeled by plus-size models so that they can see upfront and realistically what the clothing might look like on them. And then if they still like the outfit at that point, they will purchase it with confidence and an understanding of how they will appear to others.
However, the strategy for the retailer is just the opposite. Their motive is to present their clothing in the best possible light to sell them, and their concern is not on the consumer's feelings, but rather on their own sales Rosseta Stone.
Successful marketers understand the vanity of people and deliberately choose perfect models for their plus-size outfits Rosseta Stone. They know that many people live in denial of their own overweight problem and will blindly wear the outfit believing they look as great as the model.
The consumer will see when they look in the mirror that the outfit does not look the same as it does on the model, but their denial of their own size will convince them to buy it and it will make them feel good.
They miss the reality of their own size and are deceived into thinking that they look the same as the model and, of course, this benefits the retailer.
Big business knows how the minds of people think, and they know that most plus-size people are that size because it's easier to accept it than lose it. And so, it's also easier to believe that they look just as good as the model because in their minds they want to.
Big business also knows that beautiful things are appealing to our eyes and expendable to our pocket books. We, the consumer, will buy anything to make us look good if there is someone out there telling us that we look good in it. Vanity and ignorance share the same stage and receive the same reward.
People deserve to be treated equally regardless of their size, and it is not the right of the retailer to effectively deceive the purchaser into believing they will look as dynamic as the thin model. It is, however, their obligation as business professionals and humanitarians to offer the same quality of professionalism to every customer. Not every outfit will suit larger people and the staff should be trained and equipped to offer alternative choices so that everyone can be satisfied. It should be their mandate to help regular size and plus-size customers with the same integrity and worth Rosseta Stone.
